Photo Editing in the Media
After watching Sex, Lies, and Photoshop I felt disgusted by the magazines I regularly take off the shelves and purchase. In this video clip I learned that ALL photos that are in ads are retouched not only once, but up to 30 times. After seeing some of the before and afters that they provided as examples I was extremely shocked to see that some went to the extent of "evening out freckles" for a better look. This in my opinion is absurd. As the editing of ads flourishes I believe many peoples body images takes a gruesome toll. The images that many of today's teens are trying to live up to are unrealistic and ridiculous. Like stated in the clip, "No one can achieve perfection without an airbrush." The video also suggested that they are trying to pass a law in London that magazines much cite to what degree their images are retouched. I will be very interested to see if this helps at all or if we're all too conditioned to try to achieve perfection already.
